On July 17, 2020, the University of Surabaya (Ubaya) donated to the community around Ubaya to commemorate Eid al-Adha 1441 H which will fall at the end of this month. This cash donation was given as a substitute for the sacrifice that Ubaya routinely gives to the surrounding community. Ubaya donated to four community units (RW), namely RW 03 Bakung, RW 04 Panduk, RW 07 Mejoyo, and RW 08 Kaliwaru.
"We are still relatives, as this year is a pandemic, the Ubaya gives cash instead of cows," explained Yusrambono S.H., M.Sc., as secretary of the Ubaya Foundation. The money is expected to help community to buy sacrificial animals. By applying the social distancing protocol, this donation is symbolically given to the heads of the respective community pillars, and to the mosque takmir of the concerned residents.
"We are obliged to share with each other because we live next door," said Kristoforus Hidayat Abadi S.Kom., M.M., MTA., as the Ubaya Director of General Affairs. He also revealed that it is appropriate to share because of the Ubaya organizational culture taught by Ubaya's predecessors.
This gave rise to gratitude from the representatives of the people present. "Thank you for the help from Ubaya, it will be very helpful for residents," said Rojiin as chairman of RW 8. Hasan, as chairman of RW 7 also revealed that this is a form of consistency of Ubaya involvement in community activities. "Thank you very much," concluded Hasan. (sml)
